Inside, we find , melted glass, remnants of holidays gone by, a pen cap, and two inscriptions. The first inscription reads, “To L.A. Phillips from Dad – 1932”
The second,
We live, we die, and them we pass
                                    beyond-
Let’s try for in our passing
                                    leave behind
Some work of art, of which

That in another’s soul new

To honor the one year anniversary of the Marshall fire and those most affected, the raffle will begin silently December 30, 2022 and be live until April, 22, 2023, Earth Day.

Using smoke damaged violins that were salvaged from the destroyed Scherer Violin Shop along with other charred and melted debris found in the burn area, four phoenix birds were created. Each phoenix stands proud with wings open, rising from the (literal) ashes.

The body of each beautiful bird is filled with colors and elements symbolizing one of the four seasons. Taken as a whole, the four Phoenixes represent resilience in harmony, resilience within our community, the continuity throughout our natural world and what we can learn from it..

These art pieces have been lovingly designed and created by local woodworker, Matthew Neidenberg of MountainSide Arts, a Boulder based woodcrafts business and lifelong friend of Will Scherer of Scherer Violins, who’s shop was destroyed in the fire and reopened in downtown Louisville, CO with help from the community.
